The Ruby Rain Earrings

From a cluster of oval and round diamonds fall long ribbons of oval rubies and diamonds, each ending in a vivid pear-cut ruby: rain caught in red. The stones are set in a fluid, cascading arrangement, each link articulated so the earrings move with the wearer, catching light along every facet of every ruby and diamond in the descent. The white gold setting is worked to near invisibility, letting the graduated colour tell the story. Oval rubies deepen in saturation as the eye travels downward, culminating in a substantial pear-cut ruby at the lowest point. Round and oval diamonds punctuate the ribbons, their brilliance a counterpoint to the warm, saturated red. Worn, they trace the line of the neck with quiet theatre, shifting between sparkle and deep colour with every turn of the head. This is a pair conceived as one composition, each earring a mirror of the other, made once and never repeated.
