The Dragonfly Casket

A long gold casket set with enamelled dragonflies and gem-set flowers and crowned by a reclining white jade beast. Poetry, nature and craftsmanship gathered into a single object. The dragonflies are rendered in translucent enamel over finely engraved gold, their wings capturing light in shifting tones of green and amber. Between them, small diamond-set blossoms emerge from scrolling foliage, each stone bright against the warm metal. The surface reads as a miniature garden, alive with movement yet perfectly still. Atop the lid, a carved white jade beast reclines with quiet authority, its smooth, cool form a counterpoint to the warmth and intricacy below. Held in the hand, the casket has the satisfying weight of solid gold and the intimacy of something made for one patron alone.
